Bhaskar Sharma is a committed public servant and son of the soil, having been born and raised in Margherita, the historic Coal Queen of Upper Assam. His connection to this land runs deep: from the coal fields to the tea estates, from the banks of the Dihing River to the foothills of the Patkai.

This first-generation politician who entered the arena to drive real change for Margherita's people – workers in tea gardens, coal miners, tribal communities, and everyday families – has since become one of the most trusted voices in the Assam Legislative Assembly.

First elected in 2016 by breaking a decades-long Congress hold on the seat, then re-elected in 2021 with a stunning majority of 58,500 votes, and then re-elected again in 2026 with 86,349 votes and a margin of 55,317, a hat-trick of victories that cements his unassailable standing in Margherita.
